As the nature of fishing for carp has evolved so to has the carp reel. One result of this are the now widely appreciated baitrunner reels, also known as freespool or free-runner reels. Baitrunner reels allow carp or other large fish to pick up the bait, and swim away freely, ideally hooking themselves in the process. This fishing technique has become extremely successful and would not be possible without the invention of bait runner reels. The range and price of baitrunners varies dramatically; we aim to offer you a comprehesive range of best baitrunners for all budgets. Baitrunner Reels; The Ideal Carp Reel
Bait Runner Reels have become so effective that they are widely used by a majority of anglers as their preference carp reel when fishing lakes, with larger venues requiring big pit reels that still hold the same free spool function. As all anglers will tell you, there is nothing like watching the line melting off the spool of your baitrunner when a big fish has picked up the bait at the other end and made off! With this in mind its important to buy quality baitrunners with good functionality, and luckily brands such as Okuma, Daiwa and Shimano have been producing a fine range of freespool / baitrunner reels for some time.
A favourite Daiwa Baitrunner is the Regal, as it combines great quality with affordability and a well engineered free spool system. It is ideal for smaller lakes, as it lacks the line capacity that Big Pit Reels offer for large venues. Okuma baitrunner reels also combine great quality with price, such as the Interceptor Pro bait Runner. There are some terrific Shimano baitrunner reels on the market also, such as the Aero range, and these are regarded my many as the best baitrunners out there. However there are many other brands offering fantastic quality and price on their range of baitrunner reels that shouldn’t be over looked.
In our opinion the Shakespeare Cypry is the best baitrunner / freespool reel on the market in the under £40 price range. The large spool capacity on the superior 6000 model, and impressive casting ability makes the Cypry 6000 just as effective when fishing big pits as it is on smaller venues, and makes rivals such as the TFG Max Power pale in comparison.
