Centrepin Reels

Full works coming soon!
Centrepin Reels has been around for centuries and were first patented by Charles F Orvis in 1874. The simple yet extremely effective design of centre pin fishing reels, (often used as fly fishing reels) means that very little has been done to develop its mechanics since its inception. The main source of improvements have been in its material components and in the drag systems for improved fighting of larger fish when using centrepin reels.  Other than that centrepin fishing reels have seen little evolvement.  There was the development of a multiplier fly reel which enabled faster retrieval of the line, however the original fly fishing reels were eventually favouritised over the new type, testimony to the success of design.

Centrepin Fly Fishing Reels

Centrepin reels are widely used as fly fishing reels, enabling perfect bait or fly presentation on the water and easy retrieval of line. They are also regarded as purer way of fishing with the simplicity of centrepin fishing reels against the complex nature of more modern reels, and offer great fun and extra enjoyment in playing and landing fish. Centrepin reels have their use outside of fly fishing too, being fantastic for trolling offering great line control, and presentation of a surface bait. In all these instances, you really do know when you’ve got a fish on using a centre pin reel!
